As a cruise destination Gibraltar has it all: location, facilities, unrivalled levels of service and an abundance of attractions and its popularity is growing all the time. With its prime location at the southern tip of Europe, guarding the gateway to the Mediterranean, Gibraltar is an ideal port of call for cruise ships whose itineraries include the transit of the Strait of Gibraltar.
The Gibraltar Tourist Board looks after many facets of the tourism experience in Gibraltar. On arrival at most of Gibraltar’s entry points, including the Cruise Terminal, visitors are greeted by an information officer, there to provide a warm welcome and answer any questions visitors may have.
The Board is also specifically charged with the operation of the Gibraltar Cruise Terminal, where in 2018 approximately 255 cruise calls are expected with circa 404,000 passengers.
The Gibraltar Tourist Board’s marketing department promotes Gibraltar to its source markets. The team frequently meets with cruise companies to ensure customer satisfaction and that all products and services are tailor made to the visitor’s needs, and standards remain high, up to date and fresh. The board also works with local agents and transport operators to explore and introduce new shore excursion opportunities.
Together with local partners, the team also explores the possibility of increasing calls to Gibraltar, as well as looking for opportunities to attract new cruise lines to include Gibraltar as a port of call destination, as well as a turnaround port, with the airport being only a 6 minute drive away.
Greek National Tourism Organisation
Sponsor of "Hidden gems uncovered: Opportunities in new destinations"
The Greek National Tourism Organisation is the official public authority responsible for promoting Greece as a travel destination both domestically and overseas. Highlighting Greece’s unique selling points and qualitative characteristics and advantages, which of course include niche forms of tourism, such as cruising, is one of our top priorities.
Greece is one of the most important cruising destinations in the world, providing high quality port facilities and infrastructure. The country’s two biggest ports, Piraeus and Thessaloniki host important number of cruise ships every year and are ready to further expand business, while the numerous island complexes such as the Ionian Islands, the Dodecanese, the Northeastern Aegean Islands and of course the Cyclades and Crete form Greece’s unique morphology.
The diversity and richness of local culture, traditions and gastronomy of each destination, whether on an island or at the mainland, along with the high-level infrastructure and services, set the basis for unforgettable cruising experience.
We are delighted to be the sponsor of ‘Hidden gems uncovered: Opportunities in new destinations’ session at this year’s Seatrade Cruise Med 2018 Conference. This initiative is certain to further contribute in enhancing business and Greece’s brand name as a cruising destination, while it unveils our commitment to further expand and ameliorate the cruising network in Greece.
